It’s going to be pawsome!
Helensburgh’s Christmas Lights Fundraising Team is always looking for new ways to raise funds and have fun and they were delighted when Debbie Fleming, Kennel Club judge and member, offered to organise a Companion Dog Show in the square in aid of the Christmas lights funds for this year. And from that offer came the plan for a Gala Day and Dog Show on the 27th August, 10am to 4pm in the square, and the organisers hope you will all come along, enjoy the day, have a laugh and help put much needed funds in the kitty as they are determined to be able to fund the Christmas lights again this year to help residents and local businesses combat the doom and gloom of daily news. So here goes for the 27th:
The Saturday market will move to the bottom half of the square and already over 35 stalls are booked for the day and there will be fairground rides to enjoy too around the square including a huge climbing wall to test your skills. Lomond Radio will be broadcasting live, giving a running commentary and presenting musical entertainment on the day, including giving a warm welcome to the Savoy at 2.30pm who will perform three chorus songs from Calamity Jane.
Then at midday we will welcome all the entries in our Dog Show and lots of very special four legged furry friends will be invited to strut their stuff in the north part of the square under the supervision of Debbie and our judge for the day, Kirsty Feasby, and undoubtedly they will provide lots of laughs with their antics and capers. Children of all ages will be able to meet friends from “Paw Patrol” who have asked to join us on the day and no doubt will be keeping a watchful eye on their canine pals as the Dog Show organisers select the winners and hand out prizes. Sure there will be lots of antics from Marshall, Skye and their doggy pals during the afternoon. There will be rosettes for class winners and special prizes donated by the Pet Shop and we are very grateful for their sponsorship along with help in kind from Speedy Hire Services. As usual the elves are always very grateful for the generosity of local businesses for all the support they give the Christmas lights team.
Entries for the Dog Show open at 10am and you will need to your canine companion booked in no later than noon please. The classes are: Pedigree Section, five classes – Puppy, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Open, Veteran. Fun Section, six classes – Cross breed, Rescue, Best condition, Best mover, Handsomest dog, Prettiest bitch. Entry is £3.00 for your first dog, and £1.50 for each one after that.
Come along and join us for the last major event of the summer in the square season, a great way to spend Saturday in Helensburgh, totally different from our usual plant sales at the market in the summer. All funds raised from the selling the plants go to the lights and we were delighted that last Saturday’s stall injected more funds into this year’s community fundraising, thanks to everyone who has supported us and bought the succulents, really appreciated. Still got a long way to go with fundraising but off to a good start, so look forward to seeing you all on the 27th for a somewhat unusual Helensburgh gathering in the square.
